Inspired by toilet paper hoarding when COVID-19 first hit Europe in spring, Austria’s mail service Österreichische Post has started to print a special coronavirus-themed stamp on toilet paper. The stamp shows a baby elephant, a symbol that has encouraged citizens to keep their distance during the pandemic
The stamp is made from three-ply toilet paper that was produced by Essity Austria and was printed by Variuscard. A sheet of stamps is the size of a regular toilet paper sheet. A self-adhesive film from natural fiber on the backside of the stamp provides for increased tear-resistance and easy usability.
According to Österreichische Post, the idea for the new stamp was developed in spring. However, procurement of the necessary materials reportedly posed a challenge as domestic toilet paper was either sold out for quite some time or difficult to obtain in the required quantity.
The stamp went on sale on October 30. It has a value of Euro 2.75 ($3.25) plus a surcharge of the same amount, which will be donated to charity projects. Back to Tissue360 Newsletter |
