According to Fastmarkets RISI, Belgian construction material group Etex has entered into exclusive negotiations with France’s Global Hygiène for the sale of its French paper-making subsidiary Papeterie de Bègles. The talks began on March 15.
According to Etex, Global Hygiène plans to produce recycled-based toilet paper for the French market at the site. The company also received an expression of interest for the mill from the association Avenir Papeterie de Bègles on March 10, which says its investment project proposal for the plant will be ready in three months.
Etex announced its intention to either sell or close the mill in October 2020. The firm said 50 percent of the mill’s employees have already found another job.
