Prefer Soft Toilet Tissue for Your "Business"?

Let’s face it. When it comes to toilet paper, most of us value softness over absorbency, but what about paper towels, napkins and other product types? Absorbency can be vital for their success in the marketplace. In order to achieve optimal performance of any desired product property, proper pulp furnish selection is critical.

“Pulp furnish has a significant impact on tissue performance attributes but is also a major component of tissue manufacturing cost,” stated Xuejun Zou, chemical process group manager at FPInnovations. “With increased competition in the industry, tissue makers are experiencing added pressure to reduce cost while maintaining or even improving tissue performance.”

With many pulp types now available for tissue making, including NBSK, SBSK, NBHK, BEK (bleached eucalyptus kraft pulp), high-yield pulps (e.g. BCTMP, TMP) and non-wood fibers, tissue producers are optimizing their tissue making potential through the proper selection and blending of pulp furnishes, combined with refining.

On May 3, Xuejun Zou will discuss how proper selection and blending of different pulp furnishes can enhance tissue performance and meet conflicting requirements during the Tissue Track at TAPPICon 2022. During his presentation, Selection and Treatment of Pulp Furnishes as a Means of Enhancing Tissue Performance, Zou will highlight how the application of high yield pulps can enhance bulk and absorption performance of tissue. Attendees will also learn how refining kraft pulps can maximize their tissue making potential.

TAPPICon 2022 Tissue Track
