According to Fastmarkets RISI, Belgian construction material group Etex has signed a memorandum of understanding with public development authority EPA Bordeaux Euratlantique for the sale of the former Papeterie de Bègles mill industrial site.
After the purchase, EPA Bordeaux Euratlantique will allow tissue producer Global Hygiène to implement an industrial project on part of the site which includes the installation of a processing line for the production of recycled-based wadding.
The association Avenir Papeterie de Bègles, which was established by some of the mill’s former employees, had also proposed an investment plan, which was rejected by Etex. The association has now proposed to Global Hygiène a plan that would allow the two projects to coexist on the site by pooling certain equipment. The association’s ORIGAMI project aims at processing thousands of metric tons of paper for recycling and cardboard to produce an ecological product for building insulation.
Etex announced its decision to either sell or close the Papeterie de Bègles mill in October 2020. Back to Tissue360 Newsletter |
