According to Fastmarkets RISI, Hengan International has started the construction of a new 300,000 mtpy tissue mill in Xiaogan city, in China’s central province of Hubei. The company obtained environmental approval for the first 180,000 mtpy in mid-January.
Valmet has been tapped to provide a 35,000 mtpy TM for the Xiaogan mill. The unit will have a trim width of 3.65 m and a design speed of 1,800 m/min, and will produce premium structured tissue. Its startup is scheduled for H1 2023.
Around the same time the Xiaogan mill will see the startup of a Toscotec TM. The 40,000 mtpy Through Air Drying machine was initially meant to come online at Hengan International’s Weifang mill in Shandong province this year.
Other expansions: Hengan International has also ordered a 35,000 mtpy Valmet TM for its existing mill in Changde city, Hunan province, with startup expected in H1 2023.
The company has ordered four Andritz-supplied 30,000 mtpy TMs for a new mill in Yunfu city, Guangdong province. They were initially scheduled to come online by the end of 2021.
The project has hit a delay, as its environmental permits were not issued until last month. The four tissue units are expected to be brought online at the Yunfu site next year.
