TAPPI Academy Announces May as Tissue Month 2023

This May, TAPPI Academy is offering three tissue courses geared toward new and established professionals in the tissue industry. These courses, happening throughout mid-May, are designed to provide content relevant to the modern-day tissue mill to assist in increasing operational efficiency, save costs and bolster employee retention.

Tissue 101: Properties and Processes Course is May 15 – 17. This introductory course is designed for anyone new to the tissue industry and for established professionals who want to review the basics in a rapidly changing industry.

The peer-reviewed curriculum is delivered by a top-rated team of tissue instructors who will demonstrate proficiency in the concepts taught, including:

The basics of tissue sheet structure and properties, and how the manufacturing process affects performance and design
The effect of fiber raw materials on tissue structure and properties, and how to select and apply them to achieve product goals
The functions of chemicals in tissue manufacture and how to apply them to increase machine and product performance
How each tissue machine process creates and affects tissue structure and properties
The most important variables controlling product quality and variability

Tissue 202: Converting Operations Course is held immediately following Tissue 101 from May 17 – 19. This course discusses the latest technologies and resources available in converting operations. As an interactive course, students will be moving around learning about tissue converting lines and working with a hands-on pilot converting line.

A full panel of experts will tackle all facets of converting operations to help students improve converting plant productivity and reduce bottlenecks through:

Exploring each major roll converting sub process
Understanding raw material (tissue reel) properties
Learning how sheet variability impacts each converting sub process
Recognizing the impact of each converting sub process on the final product
Building awareness of the safety hazards present in typical converting lines

The following week, May 23 – 24, is Tissue 201: Operations and Runnability Course. A panel of expert instructors will explain the most industry-accepted best practices that will help:

Improve overall tissue machine efficiency
Increase production
Enhance project softness and bulk
Optimize performance of consumables such as blades, chemicals and clothing

Tissue 201 is designed to meet the career development of engineers, machine supervisors, operators and suppliers or other technical people who are new to tissue grades. Students can expect to receive broad content on manufacturing and in-depth practical information on basic concepts presented very clearly.

Registration is open for all three courses with limited seating for each. Tissue 101 is Monday, May 15 – 17 and the training rolls right into Tissue 202 on Wednesday, May 17 – 19. Tissue 201 is the following week, Tuesday, May 23 – 24. All courses are held in Green Bay, WI and students can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for completion of the Tissue 101 and Tissue 201 courses. Reserve your seat today.
