Asia Symbol Starts-up 60,000 Mtpy Tissue Machine in Shandong, China

According to Fastmarkets, Asia Symbol has started up a new 60,000 mtpy per year TM at its mill in Rizhao city, Shandong province. The first jumbo roll came off the line on May 30.

Provided by Andritz, the machine dubbed TM 34 features a trim width of 5.65 meters and a design speed of 1,900 meters per minute. It is the fourth TM at the mill. The first three TMs, with a combined capacity 110,000 mtpy, came online between December 2022 and late April.

The company is building a new 500,000 mtpy uncoated fine paper machine at the same site, and startup is planned for October. The Rizhao mill also operates two virgin cartonboard machines with a combined capacity of 530,000 tpy and two kraft pulp lines. One pulp line can produce 1.7 million mtpy of bleached hardwood kraft pulp, and the other is capable of swinging between BHK and bleached softwood kraft pulp production, and has a capacity of 300,000 mtpy.
