According to Fastmarkets RISI Modern Karton subsidiary Eren Paper is planning to build a new tissue machine at its Shotton paper mill in the UK.
The company filed an application for the project with the Flintshire County Council via SLR Consulting Limited. According to the proposal, the firm will install a single TM on the main site instead of the already approved corrugating facility, which will now be located in another area within the site at a later period.
The Shotton mill already has approval for three tissue lines on the site and the investment decision on the other two tissue lines will be taken later. “We have our plans and permits for three tissue paper machines. However, it is a staggered base investment plan. We will implement the first one and, depending on the market conditions, we may implement the rest,” Eren Paper CEO Sabri Çimen told Fastmarkets RISI.
“Analysis of the UK paper industry shows that the UK is currently a net importer of both containerboard products and tissue products, while at the same time being a net exporter of
recycled paper. The proposed development is intended to close both these gaps by increasing production at the site, thereby allowing the use of more recycled paper, with the proposed new cardboard paper production facility using 100 percent recycled paper,” the firm said in the application.
According to the original plan, approved in late 2022, Eren intends to install three tissue lines with a combined capacity of 210,000 metric tpy at the Shotton site, as well as a corrugated packaging plant with a capacity of 110,000 metric tpy. Back to Tissue360 Newsletter |
