Yankee dryer doctors include a metal or ceramic tipped creping blade which loads to the dryer at a specific blade angle to ensure a smooth and uniform transfer of the paper to the next section of the machine, as well as to prevent any build-up of contaminants or deposits on the dryer surface. TAPPI recently published TIP 0425-11 Yankee Doctor Operational Guidelines, a Technical Information Paper (TIP) providing guidelines and procedures for basic operation and safety of Yankee doctors.
Mike Six, regional sales director, Kadant Solutions served as the TIP’s Working Group Chair alongside a team of subject matter experts from Walmsleys Ltd, Toscotec, Clouth Sprenger, LLC, Fusion Engineering and BTG to provide a detailed description of Yankee doctors, their history and useful insights and definitions of the different components as well as the nomenclature operators are likely to use in their operation. As tissue or towel machines require two or three doctors to allow creping blade changes without taking the sheet off the dryer, the TIP breaks down the blade geometry, terms and calculations.
Blade life is important to production efficiency and stable sheet quality over the longest time possible. The TIP describes blade wear analysis, blade holder hygiene, visual inspections, and recommendations for doctor oscillations to minimize downtime.
The TIP is available for purchase and is included in a Company or Individual License. Stay up-to-date on the latest Standards and TIPs with TAPPI STAR. Back to Tissue360 Newsletter |
