A comprehensive tissue program is planned for TAPPI PaperCon 2010, May 2 - 5, in Atlanta, Ga. The tissue program kicks off on Monday, May 3, with a session on Current and Future Machine Innovations that includes an overview paper on modern tissue machine technology. Two options are available to attendees on Tuesday: the TAPPI Yankee Dryer Safety and Reliability Committee meeting and a special Sustainability Forum and Showcase under the theme, "The Science behind Sustainability." The day-long, semi-annual committee meeting is open to all attendees. The forum/showcase is designed for paper, board, and tissue product managers, technical marketers, merchants, and others interested in learning the basics. It includes keynote speakers and overviews of scorecard and certification programs at home and abroad. Case studies focus on how firms are responding to sustainability drivers. An overview of available Life Cycle Analysis tools will also be presented.
An Innovations for Tissue Making session on Wednesday morning includes four in-depth presentations on tissue machine roll alignment, use of polyurethane roll covers on yankee pressure rolls, DIP innovations and cost reduction at tissue mills, and cost effective tissue process solutions. Also on Wednesday morning, a Tissue Additives session explores proven approaches for predicting creping adhesive performance, techniques for evaluating tissue additives, and the use of fractionating savealls for controlling ash and fines in tissue machine whitewater.
According to Jeffrey Peters, BTG Americas tissue applications manager, who is reviewing papers for the PaperCon 2010 tissue program, the tissue segment continues to be one of the few paper segments to experience year-over-year growth on a global basis. "Our continual appetite for new, innovative products and the increased use of tissue products in less developed regions of the world will continue to drive growth well into the future. Whether your region is experiencing incremental or double-digit growth, the need to optimize the performance of your operation from stock preparation through converting is key to sustaining long term process reliability and maximizing profitability. The tissuemaking technical Session at PaperCon focuses on industry leading ideas to get the most out of your tissuemaking operation."
