U.S. Consumption of Recovered Paper Declines, but Still Up over 2009

Total U.S. paper industry consumption of recovered paper was 2.71 million tons in August, down 1% from July, according to AF&PA statistics released this month. However, August's number was 14% higher than August of last year.
The U.S. consumed 9% more recovered paper in the first eight months of this year than during the first eight months of 2009. The amount of recovered paper exported from the U.S. was up 5% in July compared with June. Exports of recovered paper at this point in the year are 2% lower than during the same months last year.
