Cascades Inc., Kingsey Falls, Que., Canada, reports that it has started up PM 2 at Candiac, Que., becoming the first North American tissue manufacturer to adopt the Voith (Germany) ATMOS (Advanced Tissue Molding System) technology. The new technology reportedly will allow the Candiac mill to produce tissue products with reduced recycled fiber, water, energy, and chemical products. The company said that the project involves an investment of more than $30 million, with Investissement Quebec, a provincial industrial financing agency, contributing some $4.9 million.
In the next few weeks, Cascades noted that it will add a new line of "TAD equivalent" Ultra bathroom tissue (produced on PM 2) to its existing Enviro line. "Since its foundation, and well before it became in fashion, Cascades believed in sustainable development. That is why we have invested in a new TAD equivalent technology that enables us to produce premium and ultra quality tissue paper, while being even more mindful of the environment," Suzanne Blanchet, president and CEO of Cascades Tissue Group, said.
Cascades produces, converts, and markets packaging and tissue products made mainly from recycled fibers. The company employs some 12,500 people who work in more than 100 facilities in North America and Europe.
