Kimberly-Clark Corp., Dallas, Texas, USA, reports that it will purchase from Constellation Energy, Baltimore, Md., Green-e® Energy Certified power sourced from wind energy facilities in Texas. The purchase will match 100% of the electricity use at the company's worldwide headquarters located in Dallas from July 2011 through June 2014. K-C's headquarters uses approximately 3,300 MW-hr of electricity per year.
"Kimberly-Clark is constantly searching for alternative energy solutions that make sense environmentally and economically," said Suhas Apte, VP, Global Sustainability, K-C. "Purchasing RECs for our Dallas headquarters demonstrates another step in our commitment to avoiding greenhouse gas emissions, supporting renewable energy technologies, and contributing to a clean energy future."
RECs from Constellation Energy can be purchased as part of a broader energy supply agreement, including electricity and gas supply. One REC is created for each MW-hr of renewable power that is delivered to the electric grid. Once a REC is sold, it is retired, ensuring that each REC is only used one time.
