Lucchese spa of Italy and its parent company Lucart Group have signed an agreement to acquire Georgia-Pacific Italia, well-known for consumer tissue product brands such as Tenderly and Tutto. The agreement includes the Italian plants of Castelnuovo Garfagnana (LU) and Avigliano (PZ) as well as the acquisition of brands Tenderly and Tutto in Italy and also in all other countries in the world.
Lucart Group is one of the main European manufacturers of MG paper and tissue products (toilet paper, kitchen towel, napkins, tablecloths, handkerchiefs, etc.). It has a consolidated annual turnover of EUR 350 million and more than 1.000 employees. The production capacity of Lucart Group exceeds 280.000 metric tpy, with nine paper machines, 56 converting lines, and many brands such as Grazie Lucart and Smile Lucart (consumer channel), Eco Natural Lucart, Eco Lucart, Strong Lucart, Fato, Bio-Active, Hygenius, Velo, Premio Lucart, and Helix Lucart (AFH channel).
Georgia-Pacific Italia, with headquarters in Genoa and the two above-mentioned plants, has some 300 employees and an annual turnover of more than EUR 100 million. The Tenderly brand covers four main tissue paper categories—toilet paper, napkins, handkerchiefs, and kitchen towel. The Tutto product range is characterized by airlaid technology that gives a "cloth effect" to products.
Massimo Pasquini, CEO of Cartiera Lucchese spa, noted that "even in such a difficult moment, we strongly believe that Italy has great development challenges and we can work to consolidate our positions within national boundaries. We are also convinced that this operation will allow us to be more competitive by creating higher value for our customers, consumers, and employees in the medium/long term period."
