ST Paper is reportedly close to starting up a converted 70,000 tpy tissue paper machine at the former International Paper uncoated freesheet (UFS) paper mill in Franklin, Va., According to PPI Pulp & Paper Week, the machine could possibly startup in August. ST plans to produce 100% recycled content tissue parent rolls.
If the ST tissue paper machine starts up at Franklin it would be the first to make 100% recycled content tissue since SCA Tissue North America started up a new 70,000 tpy PM at Barton, Ala., in 2008. Wausau Paper also is building a new recycled-content tissue paper machine that is to start around the end of this year in Harrodsburg, Ky., and run on Voith ATMOS technology, according to the PPI Pulp & Paper Week report.
