This past Thanksgiving week, Georgia-Pacific’s Plattsburgh, N.Y., USA, mill employees filled a truckload of the company’s Quilted Northern Ultra Plush™ bath tissue, worth $25,000, for delivery to people in New York affected by Hurricane Sandy. Just last year, the Plattsburgh area and other parts of upstate New York were themselves heavily damaged by Tropical Storm Irene.

"People from all over the state came to our aid, so it’s only right that we help our New York neighbors devastated by Hurricane Sandy," said Kirk Stallsmith, VP of operations at the Plattsburgh mill. "Especially this Thanksgiving, our employees wanted them to know we’re still thinking of them. The damage people have experienced is far greater than most realize and we want to continue doing our part to help."

In the aftermath of a disaster, sometimes even the most basic, everyday items are needed, so Georgia-Pacific works through aid organizations such as Convoy of Hope and Feed the Children to distribute products to people who need it most. Convoy of Hope delivered the shipment of more than 1,000 cases of donated bath tissue during Thanksgiving week. Since November 1, Georgia-Pacific has donated 11 truckloads of products including paper plates and towels, napkins, cups, cutlery, food wrap, and hand sanitizer, totaling more than $180,000.
