Sipat (Societé Industrielle Des Papiers Tissues) S.A., Morocco, has successfully started up its TM 2 tissue machine in Meknes after a major rebuild. Italian company Toscotec was the key supplier on the project, which involved rebuilding TM 2 into a crescent former. Toscotec also had rebuilt the dry end of TM 2 in 2009.
The rebuilt Sipat TM 2 started up smoothly and on time, producing a good-quality, saleable product from the very beginning, the company reports.
Sipat, established in 1978, is owned by the El Kendouci family. With a production capacity of 16.000 metric tpy, the company can satisfy demands of the Moroccan market, which is capable of absorbing 70% of SIPAT’s capacity, with the remaining 30% being exported to other African markets. The production range includes mainly facial tissue, but also toilet rolls, napkins, and kitchen towels.
Toscotec's delivery included a major rebuild of the original Toschi sloped wire forming section, which has been replaced with a Plus type crescent former with TT Headbox-SLT, a rebuild of the existing approach system, the felt run, and the YD doctoring system. Electrification and a new machine control system completed the package. The project was handled on a turnkey basis, including dismantling of the existing equipment, installation of the new machinery, startup assistance, and training services.
The new machine parts have been designed for an operative speed up to 1,300 meters/min, with a reel width of 2,750 meters/min. The purpose of the TM 2 rebuild was to meet the growing regional market demand in terms of products, quality, and production capacity with an increased output, as well as to reduce energy consumption.
