Cartiera Lucchese Wins First Place in Carbon Dioxide Emissions Initiative
Cartiera Lucchese, Spain-based tissue and towel producer, reports that it won first prize in the project promoted by Coop Italia ("Coop for Kyoto") for having recorded the highest reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of all Coop Italia suppliers at its production sites: 11,903 metric tons avoided in the 2006-2008 three-year period. Launched by Coop Italia in 2006, the "Coop for Kyoto" initiative envisages the voluntary support of supplier companies in taking action to improve energy efficiency, in line with the objectives to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases set out in the Kyoto Protocol. To date, 150 production sites throughout Italy are involved in the project and have launched projects for an overall reduction of 62,175 metric tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Of these, 11,903 metric tons have been saved by Cartiera Lucchese.
