On August 30, APCO filed reply comments with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to address comments made by other parties regarding the FCC’s proposed rules for improving 9-1-1 outage notifications. The proposed rules examine how and when service providers must notify emergency communications centers (ECCs) of network disruptions that impact 9-1-1 service. Building upon APCO’s initial comments, APCO’s filing highlighted the importance of deferring to ECCs’ preferences of the outage information they receive, the benefits of graphical outage information, and the responsibility of service providers to establish a two-way contact database to improve communications with ECCs.
