Today, U.S. Representatives Hudson (R-NC) and Eshoo (D-CA), the co-chairs of the Congressional NextGen 9-1-1 Caucus, introduced the “Next Generation 9-1-1 Act of 2023,” which reflects the bill language supported by APCO and its law enforcement, fire and EMS association partners in the Public Safety Next Generation 9-1-1 Coalition. Notably, this bill would authorize the full funding sought by the Coalition - $15 Billion. This bipartisan bill continues to send a strong message of the support we have in Congress to finalize and enact this legislation to enable the deployment of NG9-1-1 in an end-to-end, interoperable, reliable, innovative and secure manner throughout the country. APCO Executive Director and CEO Derek Poarch said: “Representatives Hudson and Eshoo have been stalwart proponents of NG9-1-1, and we sincerely appreciate their leadership in raising the urgency to modernize 9-1-1. For our members and the public they serve, NG9-1-1 is a national security imperative and will begin saving lives in our communities the moment it is deployed.”
