Nominations are being accepted for the 2016 APCO International Public Safety Communications Awards Program (PSAP) and the Technology Leadership Award. APCO International presents awards to public safety communications personnel who have demonstrated the highest levels of personal and professional conduct and performance in the line of duty. Deadline for nominations is March 31.

A group of 9-1-1 organizations including APCO International has jointly announced that they have been participating in an effort to develop recommended minimum training guidelines for the nation’s 9-1-1 calltakers and dispatchers.
 
The Telegraph Illinois State Police officials welcomed the appointment of Cindy Barbera-Brelle as the first statewide 9-1-1 administrator beginning February 8.
 
GCN Members of the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology met on February 2 to review the broadband public safety network’s progress. Some committee members had concerns regarding FirstNet’s plans to cover rural areas in the country where network access is already scarce.

NBC Montana A new contract for Text-to-9-1-1 service is scheduled to go before the Butte-Silver Bow Council of Commissioners in Montana for approval. Police and residents who spoke with NBC Montana said they hope that implementation is granted.
 
EAST COUNTY TODAY California Assembly member Das Williams (D – Carpinteria) has introduced Assembly Bill 1564, which seeks to improve the 9-1-1 emergency call system when calling from a cell phone.
