Jeffrey Cohen is Chief Counsel and Director of Government
Relations at APCO International. In this capacity, Jeff provides
strategic guidance on policy, legislative and regulatory matters to help
advance the association’s work. Prior to joining APCO, Jeff worked on
Capitol Hill, where he was one of the authors of the FirstNet public safety
legislation. He also worked at the Public Safety Bureau of the Federal Communications Commission
and was in private practice as a partner at a Washington, D.C., telecommunications
law firm. Jeff holds his law degree from the George Washington University
Law School and a degree in electrical engineering from the George Washington
University.

Memphis Commercial Appeal
When the city of Memphis set a goal to meet the national standard for answering 9-1-1 calls, they had quite a bit of work ahead of them. After two years, Memphis is nearing that goal of answering 95 percent of 9-1-1 calls within 20 seconds, city officials said. Memphis 9-1-1 dispatchers answered 93.5 percent of calls within 20 seconds, compared to 47.6 percent in October 2015 and 68.6 percent in October 2016.
