April 1, Congresswoman Norma Torres (CA) and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), along with several of their colleagues, reintroduced the 9-1-1 SAVES Act. If enacted, this bipartisan legislation would require the Office of Management and Budget to categorize public safety telecommunicators as Protective Service Occupations (rather than administrative/clerical) in the Standard Occupational Classification. Read APCO’s press release about the reintroduction.
APCO will launch a grassroots advocacy campaign following the introduction of a companion bill in the Senate, which is expected in the near future. Stay tuned for further updates.
