APCO seeks comments for the candidate American National Standard (ANS) for Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Manager/Director. The revision of this standard identifies the core competencies and minimum training requirements for the public safety communications manager/director position, which is typically tasked with managing and directing all aspects of an emergency communications center (ECC). Review and comment by December 20.

During a mass shooting, the ECC will be overwhelmed with calls. There will be calls from persons involved in the incident, friends and family of those affected, and potentially the shooter. The telecommunicator must process calls quickly to obtain as much information as possible.
