On January 31, FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel appointed Debra Jordan as Chief of the agency’s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau. APCO has a long history of collaboration with the Bureau, which handles a wide range of regulatory issues important to APCO’s members. APCO congratulates Ms. Jordan on her appointment and looks forward to working with her and the entire Bureau on advancing public safety communications.

Initial and continuing training for public safety telecommunicators is important as they provide essential services to the public in an expanding and rapidly changing environment.

APCO member and public safety telecommunicator Joseph Cory Thompson, 49, passed away January 24 at High Point Regional Hospital in North Carolina. Thompson was a telecommunicator for Randolph County (North Carolina) Emergency Services. His personality shined in the telecommunication room and on the radio. His work family defined him as the calm voice needed that has talked many in the community through some of the worst days of their lives.
