Following APCO’s publication of legislative advocacy talking points on February 23, APCO posted a blog describing its regulatory advocacy priorities for the year. Among other things, APCO’s priorities include ensuring wireless 9-1-1 calls are routed to the correct 9-1-1 center, improving wireless 9-1-1 location accuracy, protecting public safety spectrum and improving network outage information for ECCs.

Public Safety Telecommunicator Jennine Whitt answered the call when a man suffered a heart attack and his wife called 9-1-1. “She kept me focused and talked me through the whole thing until the ambulance arrived,” said Sue Bache of Dover, Idaho.

February 16 was the 55th anniversary of the first 9-1-1 call in Haleyville, Alabama. Officials say the state’s public safety communications system has been improving steadily since 1968.
