On September 21, APCO met with staff for Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairwoman Rosenworcel to discuss several 9-1-1 issues. Regarding an FCC proposal to facilitate the implementation of Next Generation 9-1-1, APCO reiterated positions from its comments that the FCC action must be aligned with the approach outlined in federal NG9-1-1 funding legislation and urged the FCC to adopt interoperability requirements for service providers. Separate from NG9-1-1, APCO expressed support for FCC action to require wireless service providers to implement location-based routing and to explore additional avenues for ensuring that emergency communications centers receive actionable location information in the form of dispatchable location.

Motorola Solutions Foundation, the charitable arm of Motorola Solutions, recently awarded a $60,000 grant to APCO. Administered through APCO’s Commercial Partner Scholarship Program, this initiative aims to make scholarship funds readily available to emergency communications professionals for education, training and professional development programs. The United States and international cybersecurity authorities have issued a joint cybersecurity advisory (CSA) titled "People's Republic of China-Linked Cyber Actors Hide in Router Firmware." The authoring agencies have observed People's Republic of China-linked cyber actors leveraging this exploitation of routers to pivot from global subsidiary companies to corporate headquarters networks in the U.S. and Japan.
