Registration closes soon for Fundamentals of Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) in Fairfax, Virginia, on June 27 - 28. The course discussions include NG9-1-1 emergency communications center (ECC) cybersecurity and interoperability issues, fundamental procurement principles and national funding efforts. Standard operating procedures for data storage, retention, and quality assurance and elevating operations are also addressed. The cost is $343 for APCO members and $365 for non-members. APCO is seeking comments for candidate American National Standard (ANS) titled Supplemental Emergency Responder Recommendations. The candidate ANS Supplemental Emergency Responder Recommendations addresses alternative response options to 9-1-1 calls that traditionally resulted in the dispatch of law, medical or fire responses. Emergency communications centers (ECCs) are being tasked with incorporating such responses into the traditional 9-1-1 landscape requiring alternative recommendations and directives to be added to the operational workflow of the ECC.

The APCO Institute has announced pricing changes for its courses, programs and services effective July 1.

 

Frankie Cole spent 22 years as a two-way radio technician serving commercial and public safety customers across Alabama. He worked on a wide variety of communications solutions during his time in the industry, but he always felt a strong pull to the public safety community. Cole now serves as the radio system administrator for Huntsville-Madison County 9-1-1.
