El Camino Rental (ECR), with three locations in North San Diego County, merged with Sunbelt Rental on April 10th of this year. Sunbelt is ranked number two on the RER top 100 list, following United Rentals. Sunbelt is a division of Ashtead Group headquartered in England. Terms of the sale were not disclosed. El Camino Rental began as a one man operation in 1975 by Bill Miholich. Most of the current employees of ECR will remain with Sunbelt.
Miholich served as CRA's San Diego territory's president for 20 years. El Camino Rental also spearheaded a very successful CRA-sponsored golf tournament for 20 years. All of the profits from the tournaments went to help CRA members, people with disabilities, and other 501(c) 3 non-profits. "Probably one of the highlights of my 44-year career." Miholich stated.
Miholich Lauded the professionalism and ease of working with Sunbelt. Miholich stated, "I made three BFFs by the name of Bill Lockin, Brian Elbrecht, and of course, Rick (Ricky) Russell. We already have a fishing trip planned for Puerto Vallarta together. GREAT group of people. They made the process of the merger very simple with the help of my son, Kyle, Liz Knurek, my office manager, and of course, Ted Donnelley, my general manager. If you have ANY thoughts of selling your rental business, I'd highly recommend Sunbelt Rentals. They were GREAT to work with!" Miholich reported.
