A study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine found that nearly 40% of U.S. workers experience fatigue. Why should employers care? Worker fatigue can lead to lost productivity. Total lost productive time averaged 5.6 hours per week for workers with fatigue, compared to 3.3 hours for their counterparts without fatigue. Even when they were working, workers with fatigue symptoms had much lower rates of productivity than their sprightly counterparts — mainly due to low concentration and increased time needed to accomplish tasks.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, ergonomic injuries — also known as musculoskeletal disorders — make up one-third of all work-related injuries and illnesses. The trends are concerning and costly. An estimated $1 of every $3 spent on workers' compensation claims stems from ergonomic issues. Click on "Learn more" for additional facts.

The Center for Jobs and the Economy has released their initial analysis of the August Employment Report from the California Employment Development Department. The August 2022 numbers saw a substantial weakening in the state’s recovery progress. While the U.S., as a whole, continued to post job numbers above the pre-pandemic high, California's job numbers returned to the overall weakening trend seen over the past 11 months, while employment suffered a small loss. Compared to the February 2020 pre-pandemic highs, California was still 0.3% short of the recovery mark for nonfarm wage and salary jobs, and 0.9% short for employment. When it comes to factory-direct off-road trucks, Ram has cranked up plenty of torque with its diesel-equipped 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel. As OEMs continue to step up their off-road packages, Ram’s 2023 heavy-duty Rebel maxes out at an impressive 850 pound-feet of torque and 370 horsepower. That rock-spitting, dirt-churning power comes courtesy of a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel I-6 paired up with a 68RFE six-speed automatic transmission that comes standard with the diesel.
It will soon be illegal for California employers to let workers' offsite and outside-of-work marijuana use be a factor in hiring or firing decisions, according to a new state law. Gov. Gavin Newsom on Sunday signed into law a bill that makes California the seventh state in the United States that does not allow employers to discriminate against workers who smoke weed "off the job and away from the workplace." The new law goes into effect Jan. 1, 2024. The law prohibits employers from making hiring, firing or other employment decisions based on a drug test that finds "nonpsychoactive cannabis metabolites" in someone's hair or urine, which do not indicate current impairment but rather that someone consumed cannabis recently, up to weeks prior, according to Assembly Bill 2188 which Assembly Member Bill Quirk (D-Hayward) sponsored.
In the latest report from California New Car Dealers Association (CNCDA), total new light-duty vehicle registrations in the second quarter of 2022 were largely unchanged from the first quarter but were off 17.5% from the same period in 2021 and down roughly the same compared to the same quarter in pre-pandemic 2019. Total sales for the year are now expected to be just slightly below the 1.86 million seen in 2021. The limiting factor continues to be constrained production levels and dealer inventory.
