Congratulations to Sylvia Woodward, winner of the W.E. "Bud" Loeber Award, and Doug Strom, winner of the James Gartland Award. The awards were presented at the January Rental Rally Tradeshow, during the Top Golf Event. Ruth W. Casteel and her husband, Jay, were longtime active members in the California Rental Association and ran a distributorship as J.P. Casteel Company for many years. Ruth passed away suddenly on January 10, 2018, at 96 years young. She was active in her church and several card clubs and was planning on attending our Woodward Family Reunion in Washington, D.C., this June. She was a great example for us all and a joy to be around. A celebration of Ruth's life was held February 10.
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of longtime CRA member Mike Gutierrez on February 2, 2018, at the age of 89. Mike was the founder of Orbit Rentals, which opened for business March 17, 1968, in Whittier, CA. During the 1990s, Mike worked with Scott Lundsford, current CFO of Orbit Rentals, to build the company into what it is today. Mike served as an officer for the original CRA Founders Chapter and as president from 1976 to 1988. In 1986, he opened the Party Rentals Store, which his daughters currently manage. Mike dedicated his life to the rental industry through hard work and practicing the business principles and ethics of the rental industry. His service was held February 8. CRA is sad to inform you of the passing of Carlene Powers on January 18, 2018. Carlene was the wife of former CRA member and board member Paul Powers, Jr. and the mother of current CRA Member Paul Powers III. Services were held January 26, 2018, and a celebration of life was held January 27. Donations in Carlene's honor may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org.
