More than half of all injured workers have a pre-existing condition, according to one expert. Who pays if the recent injury aggravates the previous injury? When you have an employee with a permanent impairment who suffers a second injury, in some states you may only be responsible for compensating the most recent injury — if the injury occurs in a state that has second injury fund.

The votes are in and industry experts have chosen Wacker Neuson’s ACBe Battery-Powered Backpack Concrete Vibrator as a Most Innovative Product (MIP) for 2020. The annual award program honors innovative products designed for all segments of the concrete industry. The nominated products are showcased to World of Concrete attendees, readers of Concrete Construction magazine and visitors to concreteconstruction.net. The ACBe Battery-Powered Backpack Vibrator received the Experts Choice MIP award in the Concrete Construction Equipment category. The Experts Choice award is determined by an invited group of industry professionals who review all the nominees.

Loegering Power Attachments, an ASV Holdings Inc. brand, introduces the ST Series stabilizing and milling skid-steer and compact track loader attachments to the North American market. Made up of the ST1000 and ST600, the ST Series attachments are versatile and give contractors in the construction and roadwork industries the ability to complete milling and stabilizing applications with the same tool.

Hy-Brid Lifts, the industry leader in high-quality, low-level access equipment, delivered the first order of ZT-1630 lifts to Advantage Rental Inc., a division of Scott Electric. The ZT-1630 is part of Hy-Brid Lifts’ Zero-Turn Series, which was recently introduced as part of its next generation of low-level, all-purpose lifts. The rental center placed an order for the new models soon after their release and has since experienced positive customer feedback.

The Hilti Group increased sales by 4.3 percent in 2019 to CHF 5.9 billion amid a challenging economic and currency environment. In local currencies growth amounted to 6.3 percent. The operating result rose by 7.4 percent to CHF 783 million despite substantial ongoing investments. “Against the backdrop of noticeable economic slowdown and negative currency influences we achieved solid growth that was substantially greater than what was seen in the worldwide construction market. Our profitability continues at a high level even though we made significant investments in implementing our corporate strategy and in strengthening the future sustainability of the Group,” said Hilti CEO Christoph Loos in explaining the 2019 annual results.

Snorkel, a leading global manufacturer of aerial lifts, went BIG at the tri-annual CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020 trade show last week, with a number of brand-new product launches, including the world’s largest self-propelled boom lift. Making its global debut at the show, the Snorkel 2100SJ “mega boom” is breaking records with a maximum working height of up to 216 ft. (65.8m), an industry-leading horizontal outreach up to 100 ft. (30.4m), and the best-in-class working envelope with an area volume of 5.48 Million ft3 (155,176m3). Shown as a preview, Snorkel accepted pre-orders at the show with deliveries scheduled to commence in early 2021.

Following the launch of three new C-class telehandler models at World of Concrete 2020, Xtreme expanded its product offering again at CONEXPO/CON-AGG 2020. Launched at the show, the new Xtreme XR1734-C has a 17,000 lbs. (7,711kg) lift capacity, and up to a 34 ft. (10.3m) maximum lift height, and a forward reach of 17 ft. (5.1m). Weighing 33,360 lbs. (15,131kg), the XR1734-C is powered by a Cummins 3.8L 120hp Tier 4 Final diesel engine, and has 11° frame leveling (left-to-right). The XR1734-C joins other recently launched models, including the XR1347-C, XR1547-C and XR1555-C, expanding the Xtreme telehandler line to 22 models, one of the largest ranges in North America.
