RVDA applauds the Canada-United States-Mexico Trade Agreement Deal (CUSMA)

The Recreation Vehicle Dealers Association applauds the Canadian, the United States and the Mexican governments on signing the revised North American trade deal. The new agreement will improve the final outcome and pave the way to ratification and implementation of the deal in all three countries.

Amendments have been made in the areas of state-to-state dispute settlement, labour, environment, intellectual property and rules of origin. CUSMA will reinforce the strong economic ties between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico and enhance our businesses competitiveness globally.

Importantly, the success of CUSMA is about more than just the ability to move goods like RVs across the border. We also believe that the government struck a commendable compromise on changes to the De Minimis threshold, allowing for a narrow expansion that will not have wide-spread negative repercussions on Canada’s retail environment. It will spur investment and ensure taxes are paid in Canada.

RVDA worked tirelessly so that our industry priorities were considered during the difficult negotiations including during our industry advocacy days on Parliament Hill, countless meetings with government officials and through strong grassroots engagement. Our concerted efforts have been rewarded and last week’s agreement is good for the economy, good for consumers and good for all RV dealers across the country.

We would like to thank all the dealers for their continuous support throughout this process. We will continue to work closely with governments to ensure RV dealers’ perspective and concerns are considered in policy and decision-making.
