SCAPA Hosts Successful 2017 Winter Asphalt Conference

The SC Asphalt Pavement Association 2017 SCAPA Winter Conference was held January 23-24, 2017 at the Marriott Hotel in Columbia, SC. Over 460 people attended the conference which was made up of asphalt producers, suppliers, engineering consultants and staff from several public agencies including SCDOT and the FHWA-SC Division.
Emily Lawton, Federal Highway Division Administrator, kicked off the conference with a FHWA update. SC Department of Transportation Secretary Christy Hall followed Ms. Lawton with an update of the State of the SC Department of Transportation.
Following the morning session, attendees separated into five breakout tracks for the morning breakout session. The tracks were Innovation and Sustainability, Pavement Design and Pre-Construction, Quality Control, Leadership and Management, and Asphalt Production. Topics ranged from "Improved Durability through Field Density" to "Utilizing Drone Technology for Top Production."
During lunch, the 2016 SCAPA Quality Pavement Awards were presented. The following companies received awards:

The afternoon breakout sessions covered a variety of topics which included "Understanding Asphalt Testing Relationships and Measuring Asphalt Industry Sustainability."
