Two polyurea elastomeric coatings from Rhino Linings Corporation, a global leader in protective coatings, have passed ASTM E-84 burn tests and earned Class I fire ratings.
Rhino Extreme™ 11-50 FR and Rhino Extreme™ 11-70 FR are fire retardant coatings with a balance of hardness and flexibility and superior resistance to tear, abrasion and chemicals. Both are ideal for industrial, commercial and specialty architectural applications where local fire codes require an ASTM E-84 rating.
"We strive to be responsive to the needs of our applicators," said Pierre Gagnon, president and CEO of Rhino Linings Corporation. "Industrial applicators requested a 1:1 mix ratio, fire-rated coating. Now, we have two products that meet those needs."
Rhino Extreme 11-50 FR earned a flame spread of 25 with a smoke density of 300. Rhino Extreme 11-70 FR earned a flame spread of 22 and a smoke density of 150.
Rhino Extreme 11-50 FR and Extreme 11-70 FR are both 100% solids (zero VOC) coatings that require high-pressure, heated, plural equipment for application. Both are applied in a single coat, multi-pass application to easily build up unlimited thicknesses and are tack-free within 10-12 seconds. The polyurea chemistry gives applicators the ability to spray at low ambient temperatures (-32oF/-35oC) or in high humidity conditions.
These products create a seamless, monolithic coating that conforms to any shape and size object. Practical applications for these fire retardant systems include military and commercial vehicles, industrial and mining equipment, corrosion control for steel structures, encapsulation coatings for fragile foams and blast mitigation for buildings and structures.
