SPFA is pleased to announce the return of Lisa Smith to our staff. She brings a wealth of experience with her from her previous tenure managing the SPFA show and membership from 2005 to 2014. Lisa started working for us this week on a part-time basis to support key activities including membership, certification and preparation for SprayFoam 2022. Needless to say, we are excited to have Lisa back! Lisa will be working remotely from her home in southwestern Virginia. Her email is lsmith@sprayfoam.org and office phone is (703) 222-4267.

We’ve created a brief video to give you insight into the nomination process. Please visit the NIE Awards page for details and a link to the video. NOW is the time to start thinking about the project(s) you want to enter and gathering the photographs and other information needed.
Help Wanted! We are reaching out to past Award Winners to join our team of contractors who are volunteering to assist their peers in the submission process. Please look for an email from Lisa Smith about how you can help! Don’t worry, if you volunteer, you can still do your own submission – but your expertise can help guide someone who is new to the process. Just a few tips on how to get started, what worked best for you, and insider’s insight are the only requirements.
Suppliers have played a role in the submission process for some contractors in the past. The New SPFA is encouraging ALL contractors to work with their suppliers to partner in this process. Many suppliers have the marketing personnel who can help write the submissions, and they also have field personnel who see a lot of projects and can help identify potentially award winning jobs! Please contact us if your company is interested in helping.
In this process, we will be encouraging contractors to reach out to their suppliers directly. SPFA won’t be maintaining a list, but instead, we encourage all suppliers to offer support to their contractors interested in completing a nomination for the National Industry Excellence Awards.

Materials shortages, cost fluctuations and a lack of skilled labor continue to affect the construction industry. Additionally, 46% of contractors say less availability of building products has been a top concern compared with 33% last quarter. Thirty-three percent are experiencing a shortage in wood/lumber, and 29% are experiencing a shortage of steel. Of the contractors experiencing shortages, 46% say the shortages significantly are affecting projects.

The affected sites include full and partial stop work orders due to hazardous conditions, and the New York City Department of Buildings also issued over 1,129 violations for safety issues and non-compliance issues at those sites.

Since the Internet of Things (IoT) arrived in construction, many firms have taken advantage of it. For those who have worked on an IoT connected jobsite, the disruptive change is obvious: significant improvements in safety, productivity and efficiency.

We are seeking speakers for breakout sessions that are 45 minutes long, including Q&A. The Conference Planning Committee will be reviewing submissions in August, and the schedule will be announced in September.
If you don’t want to be a presenter, but have a topic of interest the SPF industry, feel free to send the topic and suggested speaker(s). The site is set up so you don’t have to complete your submission(s) all at once. You may log in anytime and complete the process at your leisure, no later than August 9. If you have any questions or suggested topics, please contact Kelly Marcavage at kmarcavage@sprayfoam.org.

Our Professional Certification Program (PCP) has developed a logo that incorporates the image of the “new” SPFA. The official rollout will be in early 2022 when next year’s certification and accreditation credentials are renewed. We will be incorporating this new logo and the new Accreditation Marks in documents over the next several months so you will see both of them for a while. We didn’t want you to be confused as we go through this rollout.

SPFA is doing its part to bring awareness of open positions in the industry to our members, partners, and untapped talent pools. For every one of these positions going unfilled it’s an opportunity missed, an extra staffing challenge drawing attention away from other important priorities, or a customer perhaps needing to wait longer than they should have to.
