From the Current Issue of SPRAYFOAM PROFESSIONAL Magazine
On Wednesday, October 12th from 4-5 PM ET, the SPFA Safety Committee will host a members-only bi-monthly "Foam-It-Right"® Safety Webinar. The topic will be Ladder Safety, presented by Jack Boller a representative from Louisville Ladders. This presentation is based on Louisville Ladder’s C.L.I.M.B. Academy safety training. Every year, nearly 100 people are killed and 160,000 are injured in ladder related incidents and this training will help you avoid being one of those statistics. Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulations require companies to provide employees with on-site training on ladder safety. That’s because ladder-safety instruction is essential to the safe and smooth operation of any workplace. This webinar will cover:
• Choosing the right ladder for the job
• Inspect for damaged or missing parts
• Implementing a safe stable set-up
• Move carefully, on ladders
• Be a ladder safety expert, not a statistic

In 2013, the SPFA Safety Committee developed two OSHA-compliant, bilingual jobsite safety signs. These included a Do Not Enter sign and a Fire Hazard sign. The Do Not Enter sign should be placed at all entry points of the spray zone to provide adequate warning of the need for proper PPE. The Fire Hazard sign should be placed throughout any area interior area with exposed SPF not protected with a fire protective covering or coating, to prevent ignition of exposed foam during construction.
In 2016, two more OSHA-compliant jobsite safety signs were added. The first is the No Storage sign. This sign should be prominently and permanently placed in all attics and crawlspace areas where the foam is not covered with an approved 15-minute thermal barrier. It warns building owners that no storage is permitted in these areas. The second new sign for Permit Confined Spaces, should be placed at the entry point of all Construction Confined Spaces, per the new OSHA regulations.
All four signs are provided as a color PDF and formatted for 8.5 x11 paper. If a larger sign is needed, they can be scaled by changing the printer settings. A single PDF file containing all four signs can be downloaded from the SPFA Members Only website.

August 18, 2016 – The SPFA Building Envelope and Technical Oversight Committees are pleased to announce an update to SPFA-126 "Thermal Barriers and Ignition Barriers for the Spray Polyurethane Industry". This new document, last revised in 2011, represents significant changes to content to address recent changes in the 2015 IRC and IBC model building codes. A volunteer task group led by Lindsay Lenze of NoBurn worked diligently since April to develop this updated document. Many thanks to those that participated on this project. Copies of SPFA-126 and all other SPFA TechDocs may be downloaded at no charge from the SPFA website at: http://www.sprayfoam.org/technical/spfa-technical-documents

Source: sprayfoamadvisor.com / Robert Naini Last week we discussed the prescriptive protection of foam plastic in accordance with the building code. This week we are going to talk about alternative options based on special approval testing. First, let’s think about an attic. Imagine spraying foam to the underside of a roof deck and then trying to cover it, in such a way that the foam is not exposed, with one of the ignition barrier products I mentioned last week. Now that’s tough!

SPFA PCP frequently gets phone calls from frantic contractors wanting to know "How quickly can I become certified by the SPFA PCP?" This usually happens when the contractor receives a bid requiring the work to be done by SPFA PCP Certified applicators. Our immediate question is, "Are you certifiable?"
