SPFA News and Announcements
The Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) completed a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of open and closed-cell spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation in buildings to quantify cradle-to-end of life energy and environmental impacts across the entire life cycle. The LCA was conducted to assure builders, designers, and consumers that the products are indeed part of a responsible and effective energy and environmental construction solution. A complete 48-page report containing details of the SPF Life Cycle Assessment can be obtained from the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance website at www.sprayfoam.org. A 4-page snapshot is featured in the current issue of SPRAYFOAM Professional.

Industry News and Announcements
To address the growing demand for product environmental data, the Spray Polyurethane Foam Alliance (SPFA) recently completed a Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) for spray polyurethane foam insulation which conformed to the internationally recognized ISO 14040/44 standards. This study is the first comprehensive LCA of sprayfoam insulation conducted in North America and evaluated both open cell and closed cell SPF products. To expand on the SPFA study, Honeywell repeated the study and substituted data for Solstice LBA as a replacement LGWP blowing agent in the application.

Federal/State Government News
Reinstatement of the popular credits was a little-noticed part of the American Taxpayer Relief Act, the last-minute legislation that kept America from tumbling over the fiscal cliff at the start of the year. The law allows homeowners to claim tax credits of varying amounts on improvements such as insulation, energy-smart windows and highly efficient furnaces. And there's more good news: Congress made those credits retroactive, meaning improvements made in both 2012 and 2013 will qualify.
