Business as Usual for SSPC Chapters Until Further Guidance from Steering Committee

A member-led integration team comprised of SSPC and NACE members is working with staff from both organizations to provide recommendations to the Steering Committee that has oversight for all merger integration activities and efforts. Until those recommendations are finalized and approved, all current SSPC Chapters should continue their operations as normal.

With this in mind, there is no need for current chapters to request any modifications, adjustments, or create any new operating procedures. The integration team is encouraging introductory “get to know you” communication and conversations between NACE Sections and SSPC Chapters where applicable. If you don’t know who your counterparts are, reach out to Cara Blyzwick at blyzwick@sspc.org who can help you connect.

To date, no formal recommendations have yet to be provided to the Steering Committee. The integration team is targeted to provide final recommendations for the December timeframe and is currently gathering information, comparing models, and benchmarking other structures for analysis and consideration.

Guidance from the Steering Committee has been provided to the integration team indicating that the legacy terms of “Sections” and “Chapters” should be replaced with some new vernacular. Whatever the new terminology is for the future, the purpose will remain in providing a forum for members to promote and grow the global mission of the new combined organization, by providing local engagement opportunities and delivering relevant value to the membership in specific regions and communities.

Now that SSPC and NACE are well into the transformation process and the creation of the new organization, it is very clear that the new association will have a sizable number of interests, as well as  expanded and diverse demographics. With this in mind, the integration team is investigating the possibility of allowing for “Communities of Interests” (COI), to be established which would offer members a chance to engage globally with other industry professionals and tradespersons, focused on a shared interest or demographic, within the global corrosion and protective coatings industries.

As more information becomes available, it will be shared through town hall meetings and other channels. In the meantime, all current SSPC Chapters should continue operating as they have previously until any recommendations are approved by the Steering Committee toward the end of calendar year 2020.
