Director's Message

This week I had the pleasure of meeting Neil Bush, son of President George H W Bush. Mr. Bush is an accomplished international businessman and is the Chair of the Points of Light Board of Directors, an organization launched by his father to highlight the critical importance of volunteers in the success of individual lives and the life of our country.

Our discussion turned to the positive impact volunteering can have on the workplace. How giving back to the community as a group can build camaraderie between co-workers, building a unique bond and increased communication. How employees, particularly those of the younger generation, appreciate the opportunity to volunteer with the support of their employer, thus increasing their loyalty and ultimately, retention. Does your organization encourage employees to volunteer? Provide paid time off to support local causes? Sponsor local charities in honor of your employees?

If you’d like more information on how your organization can build volunteer programs, please visit http://www.pointsoflight.org/for-companies.
