Fall is Coming and School is Starting

School is starting, so what has that got to do with your chapter?  This is a great opportunity to reach out to a local community college or university.  Students need assistance in many ways. Your chapter can play a part in helping a student find the right focus, assist with resume writing, conduct mock interviews, or assist with career exploration.

Here are some ideas:
  • Invite the student SHRM Advisor to a meeting and talk with him/her about how you can participate with them.
  • Volunteer to speak in a HR or Management class.
  • Volunteer to speak at a student SHRM chapter meeting.
  • Invite a few students to a luncheon.  Have a sponsor waiting to greet them and make them feel welcome.
  • Invite HR interested students to shadow you at work.
  • Connect with the college/university’s Career Services Center.  There are a lot of opportunities for chapters to help college students.
This is a way to give back.  Remember when you were trying to explore all of the careers available to you or were about to graduate from college?   Having a professional to talk with would have been helpful.  You are only limited by your imagination.  You might also find an outstanding candidate that you want to hire.

Share your thought, ideas or programs with us and we will let all of Texas SHRM know.
