Two Newly Formed SHRM Student Chapters

DallasHR would like to extend a warm welcome to two newly formed SHRM student chapters at the University of Texas at Dallas and at Dallas Baptist University. DallasHR is excited to take part in the formation of these student organizations and we look forward to continuing our partnerships with these chapters in the future.

On April 18, 2014 the University of Texas at Dallas officially joined the list of student chapters in the state of Texas. DallasHR partnered with President Nathan Cory in 2013 to sponsor the chapter's formation with the Texas State Counsel. This organization has already implemented some great innovative programs to help make their students successful not only at school but also in the workplace.

On July 15, 2014 Dallas Baptist University also joined the ranks as a new student chapter in the state of Texas. DallasHR worked closely with President Jordan Togami to assist them in getting the chapter started and in submitting the necessary paperwork. This organization has worked hard to coordinate efforts and make the benefits of the chapter available to all students interested in HR across two different campuses.

Upcoming Educational Opportunities

DallasHR is pleased to announce two upcoming educational conferences. First, the DFW Diversity Strategies Conference will be held on Aug. 28 from 3:30 to 7 p.m. The event will offer an impressive line-up of panelists delivering a robust discussion on the need for sustained advocacy to a broad mix of leaders representing diversity and inclusion (D&I), recruiting and HR, and their strategic partners across business who seek to make the most of next generation D&I in order to propel success. In addition, DallasHR will host a Legal Exchange Conference on Sept. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., addressing the sheer volume of regulations HR professional are required to know, to implement and to operate within. The three components of the day include: 

• The Legal Round Up, starting at 8:30 a.m., will feature legal experts delivering the latest compliance updates and answering attendees' pressing legal questions. This customized legal learning experience will allow participants to get the answers they need on six different legal topics.


• The event will also include a keynote presentation from United States District Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn. Her topic will be "A View From the Bench – A Judge's Perspective on HR and Employment Law."


• An Employment Mock Trail, Wesley Alan v. Greyson Enterprises, Inc., will take you through a sexual harassment and retaliation trial from beginning to end, including opening statements, direct examination and cross examination of witnesses and closing arguments. The simulated courtroom experience will enable attendees to act as the jury, listening to testimony, viewing evidence and deciding whether or not the complainant suffered any sexual harassment and/or retaliation. Attendees will see how what occurred in the workplace translates into an EEOC Charge of Discrimination and, ultimately, a lawsuit. More importantly, attendees will get to see the actions HR took while the complainant was employed and attendees will see how those actions and all the relevant policies affect the trial and the outcome. Attendees will see how the decisions they make and the actions they take as human resources professionals not only affect their company's operations but have a distinct and important effect on the company's bottom line. Attendees also will get to see relevant sexual harassment and retaliation law in action. The proceedings will be overseen by the Honorable Martin Hoffman, 68th Judicial District Court, Dallas County.
