The Fort Worth Human Resource Management Association hosted theFifth Annual Strategic Mindset Event: Mission Internal Controls of External Forces conference on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at The Riley Center on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Designed for Senior Human Resource professionals this event was approved for seven strategic credits from the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).
Sessions included:
- HR Strategy: Competitive Advantage Through People
- Aligning Education and the Economy Strategic Networking Inside and Outside of Your Organization
- The Future of Texas’ Pro-Business Environment The Role of HR in the Financial Statement Audit
- Getting a Grip on Your Business
- Payroll Fraud and Its Risk to the Business
During the event, FWHRMA announced the recipient of the Inaugural Human Resource Professional of the Year Award is Becky Vela, SPHR and Director of Human Resources at Whitley Penn, LLP.
This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding achievements made by Human Resource Professionals in the Fort Worth area. Vela was nominated by her peers as the individual who has made significant contributions to her own organization as well as serving as an advocate to the HR community by utilizing innovation, technology and best practices. In addition, she reinforces the mission of FWHRMA and the national organization, the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) to "serve the needs of HR professionals and advance the professional practice of human resource management."
Darcy Brown, PHR and president of FWHRMA said, "We are so excited to have an opportunity to recognize an outstanding individual who epitomizes true professionalism in human resource management. Becky is a shining example of what every professional in the field of HR should want to emulate. She is a role-model to the next generation of HR Professionals and we are proud to recognize her for such good work."
The award presented is a custom made, one-of-a-kind piece of mounted glass art designed by Debbi Savage, an artist from Sinaca Studios School of Glass and Gallery on Magnolia in Fort Worth.
