Resource Associates
NEWS

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the SHRM Foundation congratulate the Austin Human Resource Management Association (AHRMA) on being the highest contributing SHRM affiliated chapter through October 1, 2013. AHRMA was recognized for this achievement during the recent SHRM Leadership Conference, in National Harbor, MD on November 21–23, 2013. The SHRM Foundation is a nonprofit organization, separate from SHRM, which helps shape the future of Human Resources. With the incredible support of chapters like AHRMA, the SHRM Foundation is able to advance the HR profession and serve the HR professional by providing valuable educational resources, conducting cutting-edge research, and awarding academic and certification scholarships.

The mission of the SHRM Foundation is to advance global human capital knowledge and practice by providing thought leadership and educational support, and sponsoring, funding and driving the
adoption of cutting-edge, actionable, evidence-based research. For more information about the SHRM Foundation, visit www.shrmfoundation.org.

CHAPTER CHATTER

Jenny Dupre with Veronica Sanchez, PHR, CPM

Jenny Dupre has been designated as the recipient of the 2013 Concho Valley SHRM HR Professional of the Year Award. Jenny is the HR Manager for CalTech in San Angelo. CalTech provides Information Technology and network support focused on community banks.

She has been with the company for 18 years and established the HR Department at CalTech 7 years ago, where she has since served as the HR Manager responsible for recruitment, HR strategy, policy administration and compensation.

She was nominated for her exceptional leadership and professionalism, which she accomplishes by giving others in her department the opportunity to contribute with ideas, opinions and completion of significant tasks that make a difference in everyday decision making in her organization. The confidence and motivation that this has given others will always be appreciated. Jenny is a dedicated member of the Concho Valley SHRM Chapter and true champion of the HR profession demonstrated by her willingness to teach and mentor the future of Human Resources.

DIVERSITY

The definition of diversity as defined in the Merriam-Webster online dictionary is: the quality or state of having many different forms, types, ideas, etc., as well as the state of having people who are different races or who have different cultures in a group or organization.

At Concho Valley SHRM we have Tiffany Lange, PHR, as our 2014 Diversity Director. Tiffany always manages to find a fun and innovative way to get things done. She is the Human Resource Manager at Gandy Ink in San Angelo, Texas.

Tiffany is constantly coming up with creative ways to inspire employees at the company. She has carried this same creative mentality to her position as Diversity Director. Instead of just an article, she has created a blog — Diversity Dish (http://cv-diversitydish.blogspot.com) — that is updated weekly. Tiffany’s unique way of looking at things always makes for an interesting and thought provoking read. When you have a moment, stop by Diversity Dish and take a look — I think you will be happy that you did!

MEMBERSHIP

Find and call expired members
(you can even use SHRM’s win-back sample call script)! In today’s busy world, people can sometime forget to renew online, even when it’s a membership as important your chapter. So, remind them! A personal call goes a long way to show that your chapter cares about serving them, even if it’s a courtesy reminder to pay us call.

Even 2–4 months past an expiration, a call can do wonders to boost your retention rate. SHRM has a sample winback calling script that you can customize, found on the VLRC: Membership CLA.

SHRM FOUNDATION

The Success of the 2013 Annual Campaign
With the time, energy and generosity of our donors and volunteers, the SHRM Foundation is extremely proud to announce that the 2013 SHRM Foundation Annual Campaign raised more than $1,000,000. The 2013 Annual Campaign was historically successful, outraising any previous annual campaign. A special recognition is owed to Garden State Council – SHRM for their contribution officially pushing the 2013 Annual Campaign over the $1,000,000 mark. Our sincere thanks to all of the chapters and state councils, without whom this achievement would not have been possible.

2014 Annual Campaign
The SHRM Foundation’s 2014 Annual Campaign is officially underway. New Foundation Directors should visit the Volunteer Resource Site as their first task, to download informational materials vital to your new volunteer role. We encourage all new volunteers to contact Michael Ressegue, Development Coordinator, with any questions. The success of our annual campaigns would not be possible without the effort of our volunteers and we look forward to working with all of you to make 2014 our most successful campaign yet!

Shaping an Ethical Workplace Culture Effective Practice Guideline
Each year, almost half of U.S. employees report witnessing unethical or illegal conduct in their workplaces — with direct business implications. This new SHRM Foundation report describes the characteristics of an ethical workplace and identifies specific ways HR can foster a more ethical environment. It includes company examples and provides clear, research-based guidelines for making change. Download your complimentary PDF report.
