The 84th Texas Legislature is a wrap. The Texas SHRM Government Affairs/Advocacy team of Kristin Bauer, Pam Bratton and Lon Williams is proud to say we primarily had wins this session and came out relatively unscathed. Texas SHRM worked 17 bills closely out of over 6,474 bills filed.

The HRSWC Preview Brochure for 2015 is now available online. The easy-to-print overview contains information about what you can expect at the event, descriptions of the pre-conference offerings, a snapshot of the four-day agenda and a sneak peek at the list of titles and schedules of the educational sessions planned to date. Members of Texas SHRM chapters also receive a printed version via the postal service...so keep an eye on your mailbox!

Volunteerism is what makes our Texas chapters a sustainable success, and a nomination for the Texas Volunteer Leader of the Year Award recognizes that individual who shines in your chapter, the person who goes above and beyond, the person who makes things happen. If a deserving individual springs to mind when reading this description, then we encourage you to nominate them today!

Help the nearly 100 college students who apply for sponsorships to attend The HRSouthwest Conference, the official State of Texas SHRM Conference. Without financial assistance, many of these students will be unable to attend, particularly those from universities outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area who incur increased travel-related expenses. Sponsorships are awarded on a first come, first served basis.

Coastal Bend SHRM (Corpus Christi) recently held their 15th Annual Job Fair on May 28. According to Toni Nerren, vice president of community relations, "This year was the best ever! We had over 735 applicants visit our 64 employers!"

On Thursday, May 15, DallasHR held its 3rd Annual Sunset Dinner Cruise, setting sail on another fun evening of great networking, prizes, food and drinks.

Each month, the DallasHR Board of Directors selects one nominated volunteer to spotlight for his/her ongoing and valuable contributions to the organization.

The DallasHR Executive Breakfast series continued on June 23 at Brookhaven Country Club.
