2019 TML Conference

Registration is now open for the 2019 TML Conference in San Antonio, October 9-11, 2019. Sessions will include a cybersecurity presentation by Bernie Acre and one from Department of Information Resources on the new legislation and resources available.

Don’t worry if you are not able to attend, Bernie has agreed to share his presentation on the TAGITM member site following the event. We will work to secure a copy of the DIR presentation as well.

Develop a Cyber Security Awareness Culture in Your Town or City (presented by TAGITM - Texas Association of Governmental Information Technology Managers)

Local government is increasingly a target for cyber attacks. In the last year, numerous Texas cities of all sizes have been hit with ransomware attacks and email and engineering scams that have shut down city services and led to the fraudulent transfer of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Most, if not all, of these incidents could have been prevented. An important component of that prevention is the presence of a cybersecurity awareness culture. In this session, elected officials, city managers and senior-level staff will learn how to develop and maintain a cybersecurity awareness culture.

Cybersecurity Update and Required Training

House Bill 3834, passed during the 2019 regular session, requires every state and local government employee or elected official who has access to a computer system to complete certified cybersecurity training. There are many ways to complete the training, and this session is one of them. Satisfy your own annual training requirement and hear from experts at the state’s Department of Information Resources (DIR) about why the training is required and how your city can meet the training requirements. Additionally, you’ll hear real-life examples of the latest cybercrime attacks against cities and learn more about how DIR can partner with you to keep your systems and citizens secure.
