Wm. “Shorty” Schwartz President, TAPPA

Hello TAPPA!

Dang it’s hot out!!  At least from where I’m writing this month’s letter.

I hope all y’all are taking care and staying cool during this unprecedented heat most of the state is enduring.  I know, I know, it’s a different kind of HOT!  It’s dang hot!

The TAPPA Board of Directors has been busy working on plans for next year’s event, strategizing how we as a group can grow our numbers, to the point that at least one person from all the universities and colleges across the state can attend.

In our meetings, we do discuss these important matters, along with trying to plan spectacular events and bring about informative, meaningful content that hopefully there’s something that will be of interest.

I would also like to congratulate this year’s TAPPA Awards recipients:

TAPPA Facilities Management Distinguished Service Award

Mr. Mike Wheeler CEFP, FMP, LEED AP

Director of Projects & Technical Service, Facilities Services, University of Houston

TAPPA Business Partner Distinguished Service Award

Gordian

TAPPA Stars Across Texas Award

University of North Texas

We also awarded emeritus status to two outstanding men in their field who have dedicated a number of their years to TAPPA and its cause: Glen Haubold and Juan Ontiveros.

Hopefully, some of y’all have already been on a vacation or are planning one.  It’s a great time to recharge those “mental batteries”.  Yes, that’s a thing; my daughter told me so!  And by taking a vacation, you may be able to realize these five benefits, as presented from Forbes Magazine:

  1. Increases your mindfulness
  2. Improves your heart health
  3. Can reduce stress
  4. Boost your brain power
  5. Can improve your sleep
