TAPPA News and Updates

Hello TAPPA,

Happy New Year!

I’m writing this month’s letter from my hotel room while attending APPA U: Institute for Facility Management. I highly recommend it! This event was highly attended by over 300 people from North America (yes, even Canada) participating in not only APPA U, but the Leadership Academy and T3.

As promised, I can finally let everyone in on my big news. TAPPA will be hosting its first ever regional drive-in for Facility Managers on Feb. 3 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. We will be discussing emergency preparedness and how it impacts our campuses. The event will be held in Waco at the TSTC campus:

TSTC Aerospace Center Board Room
605 Operations Rd
Waco, TX 76705

Be on the lookout for an email providing more information along with rsvp instructions.

At this time, the Board is reviewing the near 40 presentations and will be choosing approximately 18-20 of them for this year’s conference, which be held in Denton and co-hosted by UNT and TWU. Click the link for event details:

Again, I want to remind everyone of our awards program. We have three different areas where you can recognize someone within your organization or maybe that special business partner. The three categories are:

  • Facility Management Distinguished Service Award
  • Business Partner Distinguished Service Award
  • Stars Across Texas Award

You can reach out to me, wls1@txstate.edu or David Reynolds at dreynolds@f-w.com with any awards questions.

Sincerely,

Wm. “Shorty” Schwartz, President, TAPPA

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

This month we recognize Patrick Carley, PE, who joined TAPPA in 2022. Pat served in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years, retiring as a Colonel in 2021. His assignments brought him to all four time zones in the U.S., Portugal, Germany, and multiple deployments to the Middle East Region. He served at the Pentagon, the State Department’s U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and finished his career as the Air Base Wing and Installation Commander at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. Pat started at Baylor University in November 2021 where he’s the Associate Vice President for Facilities and Operations. He joined TAPPA in 2022 and attended the April conference. “I appreciate the connections made and lessons learned at the conference,” Pat said. “I look forward to the next conference in Denton and bringing back more ideas, potential solutions and connections to Baylor.”

This month we highlight one of TAPPA’s enthusiastic business partners, Allison with AQUIS Air Handler Optimization. Allison has been a TAPPA member since 2020 and with AQUIS since 2018 after more than years in the elevator service industry. She has experience in helping extend the life of air handler structures, coils and reducing energy consumption through AQUIS’ services. In 2020, Allison joined CAPPA as a Business Partner Executive Board Member and has loved every minute of increasing BP partnerships with universities and learning more about the higher education vertical. Located in the Houston area, she’s a dedicated wife and mother, with a passion for dogs and fitness. Her favorite things about TAPPA are getting to know new people and making authentic connections. Allison looks forward to serving on the TAPPA Marketing committee in 2023 and forming genuine relationships at the TAPPA 2023 conference.
