MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Robert Samaniego, Physical Plant Associate Director – Design and Construction Services for El Paso Community College, passed the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA) examination to earn the Certified Educational Facilities Professional credential (CEFP).

Robert, who joined the Physical Plant in November 2014, graduated from the University of Texas El Paso in May 2021 upon earning a Master of Science in Construction Management degree.

The CEFP encompasses the multi-disciplinary range of educational facilities management principles and practices. It also validates specific knowledge and competency for success in the educational facilities-management field, from planning, design, and construction to daily operations and general management.

APPA provides education, experience and credentialing in support of professional growth. This allows facility leaders to grow their expertise in administration, management, operations, maintenance, energy, utilities, and environmental issues.

The former Project Manager became Associate Director of Design and Construction Services in September of 2023.

We congratulate Robert on his continuous educational and professional accomplishments, and we know he will apply his skills to create and maintain a safe and functional learning environment for the student body.

Mark Fred founded Filtration Concepts in 1994 with a vision that took the company from being a regional filter supplier to supplying many TAPPA members, as well as Higher Education institutions across Arkansas, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

Over the past three decades, Filtration Concepts' success has come from their commitment to providing customers with comprehensive filtration solutions that reduce overall filter expenditures but also contribute to decreased energy consumption, a smaller carbon footprint, and a minimized impact on landfills. Additionally, institutions have been able to reallocate personnel resources from HVAC filter service to other critical areas within facilities management.

Mark Fred's active involvement in the TAPPA community dates back to 2001, where he first served as an exhibitor. His consistent support of TAPPA has played a critical role in fostering meaningful connections within the industry.

According to Mark, “TAPPA has been invaluable resource that allows us to connect and build relationships with members, many of whom are customers and friends, some for as many as 30 years. We are proud to support TAPPA and grateful to the leadership over the years for allowing us to participate and build many wonderful relationships.”
