Smart Business is Sustainable Business Series: Sustainability in the FAST Act

On Dec. 4, 2015, the President signed into law the first multi-year highway bill with increased funding since 2005. The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act of 2015 authorizes funds for Federal-aid highways and highway safety programs. The five-year, $305 billion legislation provides the transportation construction industry the needed certainty to plan for long-term projects. While the new law is pavement neutral, there are "sustainability" provisions in the FAST Act that influence what type of projects get built that will impact the asphalt pavement market.
